Guesthouse near the Jewish Ghetto in Bologna city center
The Bologna Ghetto was established with the papal bull Cum Nimis Absurdum, issued on July 14, 1555 by Pope Paul VI.
Intended to contain members of the Jewish community, it is in the historic center, in an area delimited by Via Zamboni, Via Marsala and Via Guglielmo Oberdan.
The main artery is Via dell'Inferno.
Some of the overpass vaults are still present, the elevated internal paths that were used in the evening and night hours to escape from hooligan incursions.
In the two houses of Via dell’Inferno 3 and Via Valdonica 14, peepholes used to check who was approaching the houses are still visible in the ceiling of the portico.
In Via dell’Inferno 16 we can admire the plaque in memory of the synagogue of Bologna, almost completely destroyed during the bombings of 1943.
Today the ancient ghetto is an integral part of the historic city center. Inside the ghetto there is the Jewish Museum of Bologna.
